Because I Am So Often Alone (2020) – “A Solo Exhibition”
An “artist” without a CV or voicemails or acceptance letters or useful degree or courage. A naive hobbyist with access to charcoal (among other things). Mediocre. Suddenly claustrophobic and restless.
This is an experiment and experience. A photo op. A joke. Mostly.
Virtual “gallery” opening reception : May 9, 2020 – 12 p.m. EST
Entry fee: donation based to cover venue costs aka the artist’s damn rent. paypal.me/sararentas
Artist Statement:
Working primarily in charcoal and ink, Sara Rentas explores solitude and the human figure building up to her first public display of work. These studies have served as a form of self-discovery, mediation, and experiment in mixed media beginning in 2017 before being abandoned and energetically resumed in recent weeks. Moving forward as a University of Central Florida graduate, she aims to continue this series using this most reliable and available model to further her understanding of form.

“I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the subject I know best” – Khalo
